IMPORTANT! HOW TO TIE A ROPE HALTER PROPERLY
A properly tied rope halter.
It's important to get the halter knot tied properly. If it's tied correctly you will always be able to undo the knot by wiggling the loop of the halter back and forth. If tied incorrectly (there is a picture below showing how halters are often tied incorrectly) and the horse pulls really hard, you may have to cut the halter off the horse...and you don't want to have to do that! I've also seen where someone was working with a horse with an incorrectly tied halter and the halter came right off the horse. Not good! I have never seen this happen when the halter is tied correctly. It'll only take a few minutes to learn how to do it right...just follow the pictures below. Send us an email if you need additional help!

WASHING ROPE PRODUCTS
We recommend removing any metal snaps or leather pieces before washing. Put the item in a mesh laundry bag and throw it in the washing machine with like colours. If it is really dirty, please fill a pail with warm water and a little laundry soap and hand wash the item in order to save your washing machine. Rinse, rinse, rinse!! Hang to dry. Do not dry it in the dryer.
If you have an item you'd like to wash that has snaps that are not removeable, put the end with the snap in an old thick sock and wrap a heavy elastic around so the end with the snap won't slip out of the sock. This will prevent the snap from causing damage to the inside of the washing machine.

NEW versus USED ROPE
1/2 inch Lead rope (not to scale) -- top: new, bottom: used
Sometimes customers will ask for a rope that is like one they saw that someone else has at the barn or the customer is wondering why the rope they bought isn't as thick or heavy as another rope they've seen. That's a tough one because if the rope is at the barn, most often it is well used. As a double-braided rope is used the fibers rub together and soften and as the rope is dragged through the dirt, sand, and mud the dirt works its way into the fibers. This causes the rope to get heavier and thicker than it is when it is brand new. Now, these pictures are not to scale but you can hold a ruler up to the screen to measure the difference between the new and used rope for yourself. The picture above shows a white Lead Rope that is made of 1/2" rope and has been used, on average, about three times a week for about a year. As you can see the dirty rope on the bottom has "grown" and is thicker than the brand new rope on the top. The same thing happens with the Strings. Shown below is a String that is made of 1/4" rope, obviously the new one is on top and the used one is on the bottom. There is a definite difference between the two.
HALTER MEASUREMENTS
Below are the measurements for the actual halters themselves. Please keep in mind that these halters are all tied by hand so these measurements may vary slightly.
Nose Area: The nose band should sit just below the cheek bone. It should not be too loose or too tight for the horse. If the nose band is too large for the horse, when the horse is grazing he may step forward and actually get a foot caught in the halter. The nose band should not be so tight that the horse is not able to chew comfortably.
Cheek: The cheek piece runs from the nose band knot, along the cheek to the knot where the poll strap and the piece that runs under the jaw meet.
Please note that all the knots of the halter will tighten with use.
Actual halter measurements are as follows:
New Born Foal / Small Mini
Nose Area: 14" Cheek: 5"
Foal / Medium Mini
Nose Area: 18" Cheek: 6"
Weanling / Large Mini
Nose Area: 20" Cheek: 6.5"
Large Weanling
Nose Area: 22" Cheek: 7"
Arab (Cob) / Yearling
Nose Area: 24" Cheek: 8"
Adult
Nose Area: 26" Cheek: 9"
Large Adult (fits most draft crosses)
Nose Area: 28" Cheek: 10"
Draft
Nose Area: 32" Cheek: 12"

Do you have trouble finding a halter to fit properly? We can help! Take some time to get some measurements and we can make a halter to fit!
THIS IS IMPORTANT:
- Let us know the fitting problems you have. Often just telling us that your horse has a big jaw or a big nose area or that regular halters don't fit in a particular area is all we need to know. Providing clear pictures of your horse wearing the halter is a big help. A nice side view head shot, such as the ones shown below, is very helpful.
- Take pictures!! Pictures are always helpful. If you can get someone to help you, take a picture of each measurement so we can see the measurement and if the placement is correct. (Sometimes easier than writing them down.)
- Each dot in the pictures below represents a knot on the halter.
- Each line in the pictures below represents the space between the knots. When looking at the last picture of the finished halter (#6 Finished Fit) can you see how each measurement builds the halter? You measure the horse's face and we will leave room for comfort.
- Each picture is named and numbered. When sending your measurements, please refer to these names/numbers so we know which measurement is for which piece of the halter or side pull.
- Also included is a picture of a halter showing the names of each piece...you may find that helpful (click to enlarge it).
- We will need the measurements in INCHES (no metric please).
- DO NOT USE A METAL TAPE MEASURE!!! A metal tape measure is stiff and can't bend around the horse's face like it needs to in order to get accurate measurements. Use a soft tape measure or, if your horse is afraid of it or you don’t have one, use a piece of binder twine to get the length and then carefully measure that against a tape measure. Soft tape measures are inexpensive and can be found in the sewing section of most large departments stores.
- PLEASE BE SURE OF YOUR MEASUREMENTS! We cannot possibly be held responsible if we make the item to the measurements you provide and it does not fit properly. And no, they can not be returned and made smaller or larger. Rope Halters and AB Side Pulls are made of one continuous length of rope. This gives them their strength as there are no joins to break. The knots make them slightly adjustable for a better fit but there is only so much that can be done before it starts to affect other parts of the halter so BE SURE OF YOUR MEASUREMENTS.
- There are NO REFUNDS OR RETURNS on custom fit items...period. Don't even ask. See number 9.
Have you read the important information above?
No... Then read it first. It's important.
Yes... Then follow the instructions below each picture carefully.
Copy and paste into an email and add your measurements in inches.
