ORIGINAL SNAP ALTERNATIVES

Snap Alternative tied
You do not want to be without a few of these! Whether you're on the trail, in the trailer, in the barn, or in the arena these are the handiest things to have around.
- Made of the same high quality 1/4" rope as the rope halters.
- Standard length is approximately 10" (which, when done up as suggested is about 2 3/4" -- see picture at left). Available in any length. Please email your specifications and we'll let you know how much they would be.
- They may look a little confusing but they are tied the same as a rope halter. But, not to worry...see the instructions and pictures on how to tie them at the very bottom of this page. After the first few times you'll know just what to do! Play with them a little and you'll find several different ways they can be tied!
- Lighter than metal snaps.
*** These have been professionally strength tested! *** Tied the way we suggest, a machine slowly pulled from both ends and measured the breaking point in pounds. The rope did not actually break but at 2000 pounds the knot on the long end pulled through.
Origianally designed as a simple alternative to the metal snap we have since found too many uses to mention...many of which are yet to be discovered! Drop us a line to let us know how you use yours!
- bucket hangers
- replace a broken snap on reins or leads
- attach things to your saddle (lariet, water bottle, jacket, etc.)
- attach a lead to your halter or reins to a bit or sidepull without any hardware
- use to hang things in the stall or trailer (buckets, hay net, trailer ties, etc.)
Choose any one 1/4" colour from the "Colour & Rope Selection" page.
Sold individually.
Standard length is 10". Any length is available.
$7.00 each CDN

BRAIDED SNAP ALTERNATIVES

The Braided Snap Alternatives are made of the ParaCord that we use for the braided accents on our rope tack. So, this allows you to mix and match the braided accents with your Braided Snap Alternatives!
Metal snaps are heavy and can add weight to the bit or Side Pull when riding. Snap Alternatives are light weight and strong and can be used for all kinds of things! Let me know the uses you come up with for yours!
How they work:
Referring to the picture above, feed the knot end (shown at top, right) into the loop end (shown top, left). Slide the ring that is on the loop end up to lock it into place. (See how the ring on the Braided Snap Alternative at the bottom has moved to lock the loop end around the knot end.)
***IMPORTANT: ParaCord is known for it's strength but PLEASE NOTE that these have NOT been strength tested. To date, no problems have been reported when used on reins; they seem to work just fine under normal riding conditions. I haven't tried using them to join a lead and halter as of yet.
- 7 1/4" is the standard length. If you'd like a different length, let us know and we can give you a price.
- Choose any of the Braiding Colours shown at the bottom of the "Colour & Rope Selection" page.
Sold individually

RING SNAP ALTERNATIVES
The Ring Snap Alternative is made with a sliding ring or button that locks the knot in place making changing reins or removing a lead quicker and easier. No knot tying required!
How they work: In the picture above you can see the top Ring Snap Alternative is open with the ring down close to the knot at the bottom of the loop. The bottom Ring Snap Alternative is closed - the knotted end has been fed through the loop - and the ring is up to lock the knot in place.
- Approximately 6 1/2 to 7 inches long.
- The main part - the base - is made of the same 1/4" rope that the Halters and Side Pulls are made of so you know it will be strong and durable. The ring is made of ParaCord that we use for all the braided accents you see decorating our rope tack.
- Available in your choice of colours. See the "Colour & Rope Selection" page. Choose one of the 1/4" colours for the base and one of the Braiding Colours for the ring.
***IMPORTANT NOTE: Please be aware that these have NOT been strength tested. Our only concern is that the knot on the end may slip if under extreme conditions. As with any tack we would suggest that the knots be checked periodically to ensure they have not slipped.***

EASY SNAP ALTERNATIVES

The Easy Snap Alternative is another option for replacing metal snaps on reins. They are made of the same 1/4" rope that we use for our halters so you know they will be strong and durable! The braided ring is made from the ParaCord that we use for all our braided accents. This allows you to mix and match colours!
Here's how they work:
- Referring to the picture above, the reins attach to the solid loops at the right of the picture.
- The ends shown at left open so that you can attach it to a bit, halter, or Side Pull.
- Notice the braided ring (shown in Reflective braid). On the Easy Snap Alternative at the top of the picture the ring has been moved down towards the knot allowing the two ends to separate. Feed the knot end into the loop end and lock it into place by moving the ring up.
Below is an example of the Easy Snap Alternatives used to attach Reins to a Side Pull. Notice the Reins attached to the solid loop end of the Easy Snap Alternative (shown at the bottom of the picture.) Also notice how the braided ring has been moved up to lock the Easy Snap Alternative onto the ring of the Side Pull.

The only thing I would advise it to check the knot end to make sure that the knot hasn't slipped. (Maybe even sew the knot end with a few stitches of strong thread to ensure it wouldn't slip.)
- Choose one of the 1/4" colours for the Easy Snap Alternative. Then choose any of the Braiding Colours shown at the bottom of the "Colour & Rope Selection" page for the braided ring.

HOW TO TIE THE ORIGINAL SNAP ALTERNATIVE
The Snap Alternative can be tied in many ways. This is one way that I find easy and seems to work very well. I also tie them like you would tie a rope halter and that works very well too. Play around with it and find whichever way works best for you. You may find you need to tie it different ways depending on what it's being used for at the time. Have fun with them!
