What Folks are saying about the Side Pull
We know, it's tough. It might be something you've never tried before and you have questions. How do you know if this might work for you? Will your horse respond well? Will you like it? Will it last? Will it look silly? We all go through this at times when considering something that might be new or different to us.
Maybe this will help. Here are some things that folks have said after trying the Rope Horse Tack Side Pull. We've copy/pasted the emails or Facebook messages here for you to see. Last names have been withheld in respect of the customer's privacy.

I found this great email and picture from Abby in my Inbox...she just made my day! Here's what she has to say...
"Hi! I ordered a side pull from you a little over a year ago and just wanted to send an update: It is absolutely perfect, and still going strong! I've been switching off between this and a bit, but mostly using the side pull and will probably be ditching the bit soon! The color hasn't faded at all (which I've found happens often) and when it gets dirty, I just throw it in the washer with a load of laundry and it comes out soft and clean. Couldn't ask for a better product. My horse listens so much better without having metal in her mouth and this side pull has worked wonders for us. :) " Abby ordered a couple of Nose Band Side Pulls as well. Go to the "Nose Band Side Pull" page to read her experiences with it and to see a picture of it on her horse. |
A huge "Thanks!" goes to Abby for taking the time to send her thoughts and experiences with the side pull to us! We love to hear how it's working for you and your horse! And the picture is awesome!

Phyllis has the set shown in the picture at left and posted this on the Facebook page to let us know how it was going...
"I love my bitless halter and the braided reins! My horse has done really well with it so far. It really makes me use my legs more I still can turn and flex him just like he has a bit in his mouth!" Thanks Phyllis!! Love to hear it's going so well!! |
Here you can see the AB Side Pull works just fine with the Guardian Mask! This is a black AB Side Pull with matching black reins. Button accents on both the AB Side Pull and reins are done in Sneaky Pink paracord. Also notice the Braided Snap Alternatives in Sneaky Pink too! (See the "Braided Items" page, photos 42 to 46, for more detailed pictures and pricing information for braided accents.) A big ol' "Thanks!" goes to Esther and Delilah for the picture and kind words!
This is what the owner of the horse above said about using the AB Side Pull and her horse's reaction to it :
"Hi Lorie! :D
I couldn't be happier with our new set! I've always tried to have a conversation with my horses (out loud too :P ) and the sidepull makes Delilah's viewpoint clearer. She's always been ridden with a light hands but it never seemed to stop her from freaking out. She has not taken off bucking once since we started riding in a sidepull. I can't tell you what a relief that is for me! (and probably for her as well). Her response to my leg aids seems to improve with every ride. She is more willing to ride "straight" rather than tilted to one side or the other. She is still able to frame up when her back allows her too. And best of all, she "seeks" the sidepull when its time to ride. She has never been a problem to bridle, but she's never been extremely interested in a bridle either. She sees the sidepull and tries to put it on herself!
Thank you!!!
Esther and Delilah"
I received an update from Esther a few weeks after her first email which appears above. Here's what she had to say:
"Hi Lorie!
I thought I'd send you an update since I'm beside myself with happiness! :) Last week Delilah and I got to gallop for the first time together!!!!!!!!! The issue before our sidepull was the bucking, both before gaining speed and during. We would never have been able to accomplish this with a bridle (believe me I've been trying since she was four). I have high hopes for making it to the bush this summer! :)"
Esther and Delilah
I know Esther and Delilah have been trying to make it through the fields to the bush for a trail ride without incident but have been unsuccessful so far. It seems like this just might be the year that they will get there!!

Liz email this picture of Beauty wearing her new AB Side Pull and Reins with braiding done in Candy Snake. She included her thoughts...
"The sidepull arrived this past week, and it is stunning! I love it! It is exactly what I ordered, excellent quality and a great fit! My daughter wants one in blue, so I will let her design one and then order it for her birthday! She's not a fan of pink, so hopefully she'll leave mine alone! ;) I posted photos on my FB page and one of my friends seemed very interested, so maybe you'll get an order from her, and I'll be sure to let others know where I got it! I'll be in touch again, soon! Liz" |

Amanda left this message on the Rope Horse Tack Facebook page for us. Amanda trains horses and has seen a bunch lately that have bitting or mouth issues. Someone gave her one of our AB Side Pulls and this is what she said about it...
"Hi! I talked to you guys yesterday.. I had just acquired one of those AB side pull halters.. Well I tried it on one of our worst bit cases today.. Totally different horse! I had tried a bosal on him a while back and he was lethargic and didn't want to turn and leaned on it and fought it the whole time.. I've never been a fan of them anyway but like I said.. had to figure out something for him! So any way I tried your halter rig.. Omg! He has awesome! No fight.. His turns were soft .. He stopped on a dime.. Back up! Trotted .. Roll backs! He was great! All on a loose reign BTW.. Tight reigns being his pet peeve... He was wonderful! I will definitely be buying more! Do you know if rigs like yours are legal to compete in stock horse shows like cutting and sorting and the like? We have to find something that is .. Cuz we compete in all that stuff..
Amanda
We've trained many horses and always with a bit.. However with these new ones coming in with mouth issues this seems so far to be a great solution!"

"Did I tell you? I used my beautiful side pull with Gracie a few days ago out on a nice trail ride and she did amazing with it. She was more relaxed that she's ever been out alone. Normally when we are out alone she is a maniac trying to get back home the whole way around trail. She was pretty calm, ears forward, even initiated a bit of exploring. I was floored." ~ Jessica Trailmaster Bareback Pads and Accessories |
Some people have a mistaken belief that some things can't be done bitless...which is completely false. Anything you can do with a bit can be done bitless. We have customers who do everything from dressage to barrel racing, from jumping to moving cattle and everything in between, all while bitless. Sabrina has a life that I'll admit I'm a little envious of. Sabrina and her husband each have one of our Headstall Side Pulls and are out on the range taking care of their herd of cattle all while riding bitless. They've been using their Side Pulls for a few years now and Sabrina sends us updates every now and again...which we just love!! Here are a few of the pics and comments she has shared with us.
May 2015 "Went on a small ride today I ran him and heeled a cow a little just to see how it worked for turning and stopping and he seemed to respond very well :) I think it's a winner!" December 2016 "Merry Christmas Eve!! Hope all is well moved some cows today and got a few pictures of my bridle which is still working great." August 2017 "Packing salt in the forest today. Headstall side pull still working great! Even when he steps on the reins haha" |
Look at that smile!! That says it all right there! Here's a note from Rosie's mom, Carlye...
"Thank you so much for your hard work Lori! The side pull looks amazing and works even better. Rosie and Jolene were off like a shot and Jolene was very responsive to all of Rosie's requests. Even stopping, which is a challenge for them!" |
Thanks so much to Carlye for the kind words and great pictures. I'm so happy that the Side Pull is working out so well for Rosie and Jolene!

I put a post on the Facebook page about the Side Pulls and a couple of folks commented about their own personal Side Pulls that they've been using. I've copy/pasted the comments for you here...
"I had the one in the first picture made about 8 years ago and it’s still in amazing shape! I highly recommend!"

"These are amazing! I bought one for my gelding last year and I love it."
